GREENSBORO — Wrangler is bringing in five contest finalists — including two from North Carolina — later this week to help the Greensboro-based denim apparel company design a limited-edition collection of blue jeans.

Several dozen contestants entered the Next Blue design competition. The finalists this week will work out of the company’s North Elm Street headquarters and work with Wrangler designers, merchandisers and marketing teams to craft their ideas.

Beginning April 19, the finalists will have their designs showcased on NextBlue.com. Fans will have one week to vote for the final winning design. The grand prize winner will be announced April 26.

The five Next Blue finalists include:

• Song Anh Nguyen of Greensboro. She says her perfect jean is “both classic and comfortable” with a bit of sophistication.

• Rachel Fisher-Schulz of Clemmons. Her vision for the next Wrangler jean is to stay true to the Wrangler brand’s classic style, while incorporating new design elements such as a faux pocket.

• Lance Horsford of St. Louis, Mo. He wants to create jeans you don’t only work in, but that serve multiple purposes and can be worn on any occasion.

• Casey Golden of Portland, Ore., whose idea of the perfect pair of jeans is all about the pocket placement and details to help enhance the behind.

• Krystal Vaquerano of Richmond, Va. She would like to design a slim, fitted cargo jean style for young professionals with multiple pockets to accommodate various technological gadgets.

“Because there were so many great videos submitted, it was very tough to narrow down the number of finalists to five. We are grateful to everyone who participated,” said Craig Errington, vice president of marketing for Wrangler. “Through the Next Blue initiative we hope to extend the Wrangler consumer demographic while keeping true to the legacy of our brand.

“We can’t wait to see which finalist’s design is chosen by the public as the first style in the Next Blue collection.”

The Next Blue winner will receive $5,000 and have their jean design produced, marketed, and sold exclusively by Wrangler this fall.
