The Harem pant style is becoming more and more accepted by men and women across the globe. It was the most popular style when I was in Italy last month; I tried on close to 20 different styles. Dundup denim being my personal favorite with fit and styling details… a run for the money- here comes a Diesel jean that can compete for the best fit and killer style! A fellow apparel guru traveling in South America right now; when I asked  him what the hottest denim on the street is right now “hands down the Harem style for both men and women”. So, why is it that the good ‘ol USA is just now accepting the skinny cargo and has close to no hope for the harlem style pant gaining traction. I was so proud to see women in Rome wearing the harem jeans and trousers with their pumps and fitted blazers at a size 2 and 10 alike. Confidence exuded the streets or New York and Italy with personal style being executed- good or bad, soft or hard- people were embracing their mornings and playing with their closets before walking out the door. I can only hope that personal stylist are getting to know their clients more intimately and building our consumer’s confidence and addressing the body image issues.

So, Diesel came… and they brought me the Pollyes Pantaloni; upon my first glance my knees buckled- it was LOVE. This medium wash harem jean has all the attributes that creates this to be the best executed (easily wearable) Harem style yet.

The Pollyes Pantaloni has dropped trouser articulated front pockets that compliment the slouchy crotch and skinny leg; which makes it a harem style. The side seams come from the back side of the pockets and twist around the outside of the leg to be a center seam down the back of the calf. The leg line is clean with articulated knee details. Diesel is known for their innovative washes and once again they made me proud to be in the denim business. The unique creases and choice of indigo shades. There is only a touch of light abrasion and a few tiny white holes just to add the perfect amount of wear. The rear seat leaves room for a toosh or will slouch nicely for those missing the extra curve in the back. The harem style jean is the ultimate confident jean to rock with the perfect pair of Lanvin flats, your favorite gladiator or classic pumps.

Levi Strauss-The American Denim Dream

For the generations growing up after the Second World Was it is hard to imagine life without jeans. Available in all sizes, perceived as a garment for leisure time or a trendy item that enhances the legs, hips, (or BUTT) of whomever is wearing them, over time is has developed an ever changing product range to satisfy a constant demand. Nevertheless, for nearly 400 years denim existed only in the form of large pieces of canvas, which ended up being roughly cut and sewn mainly for agricultural use. It was not until the middle of the 19th century when a German who had emigrated to the the United States of America inaugurated the era of jeans as a man’s garment and understood the significance of a phenomenon that lies at the foundation of contemporary civilization.

The very first factory specializing in the production of denim garments was “LeviStrauss”, after the Bavarian name of its founder, Levi Strauss. Legend has it that the young German of Jewish origin Lob Strauss, soon transformed into the english-speaking Levi Strauss, emigrated to the United States in 1847 and immediately after his arrival in New York started selling denim tents and pieces of material from town to town to earn enough to live on.  His street vending activities eventually led him to San Francisco in 1853, an irresistible magnet in those days due to the Gold Rush and the booming market created by the migratory flow of gold seekers. These “workers” needed durable clothing which would not wear out as fast as the normal trousers of the day. Levi thought he has the right answer, took his tent material and has a local tailor make a pair of trousers. Legend has it that the first gold miner who put them on was so satisfied that he because an extraordinary advertising vehicle for the garment. This precursor to jeans, practical to wear one’s normal clothing, also to protect it, was called overalls. The story tells how Levi Strauss gradually left his work as a traveling salesman and rationalized the production of overalls, in the form of trousers. Soon they were being mass produced, with workers sewing mainly larger sizes which fit everyone, since they covered everything anyway.

Spectacularly successful, by 1856 Levi Strauss’s little store on Sacramento Street had become an emporium. Ten years later Levi Strauss had a very solid company.-by Elisa Ravaglia “I love Finishing”

  • The “XX” — the oldest pair of 501® jeans in the world, circa 1879
  • A pair of jeans from 1938 that towed a car
  • A one-piece garment for women called “Freedom-Alls” from 1918

Here it is 2010, Levi Strauss is still based in San Fransisco, CA employing over 12,000 denim addicts and slingin’ jeans in over 60 countries. Levi Strauss’s denim emporium is still thriving globally; thanks to his denim dreams. He launched a competitive new industry in the apparel and retail world that has revolutionized the street landscape from rural to the bustling cities across the globe.

I woke up this morning; my MONDAY morning with the beginning of fall cramping my style. It was cold, foggy and just not feeling inspired- a day when the ideal is a fire, a cup of coco and a stack full of jeans to write about. …in my slippers! Unfortunately, today I was forced to leave the house.  I opened my closet or my denim filing cabinet and smiled when my hand touched my true blues… The Paige Laurel Canyon is a Classic Bootcut- medium light wash- mine is hella old but damn it’s a goodie. The girl next door jean with a little bit of spunk with the knife crease up the back of the leg.

Well, I have to say that TWITTER has done me well for launching The Butt Therapist  and bringing you the delightful and the dirty on denim around the world. While stopping in NYC for Fashion Night Out; I had the opprotunity to meet up with Olga Koren and denim designer Carlyle Hanson from People’s Pride 4 all. Launching a denim line that was cuious what I thought about their butt!

I tried on several styles and was definalty impressed… see for yourself… a few pictures of my toosh in some fresh, creative and very innovative jeans. Firm denim that makes these jeans feel like “real” jeans. The yolk is not your typical and makes a huge difference in the shape of the rear view! I LOVE that they are truly well made; the level of quality is unmatched! Peoples Pride 4 all- you can use the word couture to describe your denim collection!
